In the Kenyan context, embroidery & crochet have long been valued art forms used to express identity, status, and cultural heritage. When used to cover seats, embroidery served both aesthetic and functional purposes: it elevated the visual appeal of furniture while also protecting it. In many communities, especially among the older generations embroidered seat covers & crochet table clothes were a sign of prestige and were often handmade using locally sourced materials and traditional techniques. Crochet seat covers, tablecloths, and cushions became common in many households, often symbolizing care, creativity, and hospitality. Over time, both embroidery and crochet became intertwined with domestic pride and social presentation, especially during communal gatherings and special occasions.
